Process

How we run a banking application

01

Profile assessment

Nationality of shareholders, activity, expected turnover, counterparty countries and any existing UAE history. This determines which banks are realistic before we waste anyone’s time.
Week 1
02

Bank shortlist

Two or three banks whose current appetite matches your profile, with the reasoning and the trade-offs — minimum balance, fees, trade finance capability, onboarding speed.
Week 1
03

Document and KYC pack

Business plan, source-of-funds narrative, transaction projections, corporate and personal documents assembled and reviewed before anything is submitted.
Week 1–2
04

Introduction and submission

We submit through a named relationship manager rather than a branch queue, and brief them on the file in advance.
Week 2
05

Compliance review and questions

The bank’s compliance team reviews and usually comes back with questions. Speed of response here materially affects the outcome — we draft the answers with you.
Week 3–6
06

Approval, activation and funding

Account number issued, online banking activated, signatories registered and the minimum balance funded.
Week 4–8

Questions

Account opening questions

Almost always, yes. Most UAE banks require the authorised signatory to attend in person for identity verification and signature capture. A small number of digital providers onboard remotely. Plan one trip that covers your medical and Emirates ID biometrics as well, so a single visit completes the licence, visa and banking together.

Sometimes. Some banks will open a corporate account for a non-resident signatory with a valid licence, though usually with a higher minimum balance and more limited functionality. Most prefer the signatory to hold an Emirates ID. We sequence the application to match the bank we are targeting.

We reposition and resubmit elsewhere. A decline is rarely about the business being unbankable — more often it is a mismatch with that bank’s current risk appetite for your nationality, activity or counterparty countries. What matters is understanding why, and fixing the file rather than firing off identical applications.

Most companies benefit from two: a traditional bank for credibility, cheques and any future credit, and a digital account for fast multi-currency payments. Running only one leaves you exposed if the relationship is reviewed or frozen during a routine compliance check.

Repeated declines leave a trail. One properly prepared submission to the right bank beats five hopeful ones — and costs you less time.
