Frequently asked questions

Twenty-five common questions, grouped by where you are in the process. If yours is not here, ask us — the answer usually takes two minutes.

Getting started

From roughly AED 12,500 for a zero-visa free zone licence, AED 20,000 to AED 27,000 with one residence visa, and AED 38,000 to AED 62,000 for a mainland company with an office and three visas. See the full cost breakdown.

Three to seven working days for a free zone licence, seven to fifteen for mainland. Add two to four weeks per residence visa and three to eight weeks for a bank account, running in parallel. Four to eight weeks end to end is realistic for a straightforward file.

Not for incorporation in most free zones. You do need to be physically present for the medical fitness test and Emirates ID biometrics, and almost every bank requires the signatory in person. One trip of about a week usually covers everything.

Yes in every free zone, and on most mainland activities. A short strategic-impact list still requires Emirati participation, and some professional licences use a Local Service Agent who holds no shares.

Choosing a structure

Mainland if you sell directly to UAE customers or government, need an inspected premises, or plan to hire beyond four or five people. Free zone if your customers are international, you are a service business, or you want the lowest entry cost. See the full comparison.

Work backwards from your activity, your eighteen-month visa plan, whether you handle physical stock and which bank is likely to accept you. Price is the fifth consideration. Our comparison table is a good starting point.

Holding shares, property or intellectual property. It cannot sponsor visas, lease premises or trade inside the UAE. If you need any of those, it is the wrong tool. See offshore company formation.

Not easily. There is no conversion mechanism between mainland and free zone, or between most free zones. You would incorporate again and migrate the business, which is why the first decision deserves a proper conversation.

Visas and residency

Through your own company as an investor or partner, through an employer as an employee, or independently via the Golden Visa if you meet one of its categories. See visa services.

Yes, once your own visa and Emirates ID are issued, subject to a salary threshold (commonly AED 4,000 a month or AED 3,000 plus accommodation), suitable housing and attested certificates. See family visas.

Possibly — there are fourteen categories. The most common are AED 2 million in property, a monthly basic salary of AED 30,000 or more, or entrepreneur and specialised talent routes. Our assessment is free.

A standard residence visa is cancelled after six consecutive months outside the country. Golden Visa holders are not subject to the same rule, which is why frequent travellers often pursue one.

Banking

Three to eight weeks for a well-prepared file. It is the least predictable stage of the whole process.

No, and neither can anyone else honestly. Approval sits with bank compliance. We improve the odds substantially by matching you to the right bank and preparing a file that answers their questions in advance.

Typically AED 25,000 to AED 150,000 depending on the bank and account tier. Falling below it triggers monthly fees rather than closure.

Tax and compliance

0% on taxable profit to AED 375,000 and 9% above. Registration is mandatory for virtually every UAE company regardless of profit. See corporate tax registration.

Only if they qualify as a Qualifying Free Zone Person, which requires substance, qualifying income, de minimis compliance, transfer pricing documentation and audited accounts. It is not automatic.

Mandatory once taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000 in a rolling twelve months, or are expected to within thirty days. Voluntary from AED 187,500. See VAT registration.

Several free zones require one before renewal, some mainland activities require one, and any company claiming qualifying free zone tax status needs one regardless. See audit services.
