The process

What every residence visa involves

01

Establishment and immigration file

Before anyone can be sponsored, the company must be registered with immigration and hold an establishment card and e-channel access.
Once per company
02

Entry permit

The authority issues an electronic permit allowing the applicant to enter, or to change status if already inside the country.
3–7 days
03

Status change or entry

If the applicant is already in the UAE on a visit visa, status is adjusted inside the country. Otherwise they enter on the permit.
1–3 days
04

Medical fitness test

A blood test and chest X-ray at an approved centre. Express options exist. The applicant must attend in person.
1–3 days
05

Emirates ID biometrics

Fingerprints and photograph captured at an ICP centre. The card is issued and delivered separately.
1–2 days
06

Visa stamping and issuance

The residence visa is issued electronically and linked to the passport. The Emirates ID follows by courier.
3–7 days
Health insurance is mandatory for every Dubai resident and must be in place before the visa is issued. Budget roughly AED 900–3,500 per person per year depending on the plan you choose.

Questions

Visa questions

Two to four weeks per applicant once the company’s immigration file is open. The sequence is entry permit, then status change inside the country or entry on the permit, then medical fitness test, then Emirates ID biometrics, then visa stamping. The applicant must be physically in the UAE for the medical and biometrics — those two steps cannot be done remotely.

Standard residence visas issued through a company are typically two years, with three years common in some free zones for investors. Golden Visas run for ten years, and the Green Visa for five. Visas lapse if the holder stays outside the UAE for more than six consecutive months.

Yes, once your own residence visa is issued and you hold an Emirates ID. Sponsoring a spouse and children requires a minimum salary — commonly AED 4,000 a month, or AED 3,000 plus accommodation — plus attested marriage and birth certificates and suitable housing. Sponsoring parents is possible but attracts higher income thresholds and a deposit. See family and dependent visas.

A residence visa is automatically cancelled after six consecutive months outside the UAE, with limited exceptions. If you travel heavily, tell us at the outset — a Golden Visa, which is not subject to the same rule in the same way, may be the better structure for you.
